Employment Pass

The Employment Pass (EP) is a work visa for foreign professionals, managers, and executives in Singapore, issued by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). It typically requires applicants to have higher education, specialized skills, and relevant work experience. EP holders can apply for Dependant's Pass (DP) for their spouse and children under 21. Since 2023, EP applications have been subject to the Complementarity Assessment Framework (COMPASS), which scores applicants on salary, qualifications, skills, firm diversity, and local employee ratio. The EP is usually valid for 1-2 years and renewable. EP holders may apply for Singapore Permanent Residence after meeting certain conditions.

1. Secure a job offer from a Singapore-based employer.
2. The employer submits the EP application via MOM's online system with required documents.
3. Wait for MOM to process the application (usually several weeks).
4. If approved, receive an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter, which allows entry into Singapore.
5. Upon arrival, complete medical examination, fingerprint collection, and other formalities to obtain the EP card.
6. Begin working in Singapore.

• Ensure the employer is reputable and the job is genuine.
• Familiarize yourself with the COMPASS framework and aim to maximize your score.
• Salary is a key factor; negotiate for at least the industry average.
• Provide complete and truthful documents; avoid omissions or fraud.
• If rejected, you can appeal or reapply after addressing the reasons for rejection.
